Family Law & Collaborative Family Law
Suzanne hails from the City of Sarnia, Ontario, ("Chemical
Valley"), where her younger years consisted of a focus on academics
and athletics. Not wanting to stray too far from the industrial
heartland of Canada, Suzanne attended McMaster University in
Hamilton, Ontario where she was a recipient of two university
scholarships and was on the Dean's Honour List while obtaining her
Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Political
Science.
Suzanne was encouraged to enter the legal profession by her
eldest sister who is presently the Crown Attorney in Sarnia. After
two years at Osgoode Hall Law School, Suzanne became a summer
student and subsequently an articling student with Martin Hillyer
Bryant after completing her Law Degree. Suzanne was called to the
Bar February 9, 1993. Suzanne focuses her practice on Family Law.
The practice of law has afforded her with opportunities to meet new
challenges every day and assist her clients with problems which
often overwhelm them at troubling times in their lives. Her
involvement with a family law client leaves Suzanne with the
satisfaction of knowing that she has assisted her client with
overcoming one of the most challenging hurdles in his or her life,
which become so difficult for the client to conquer alone. The
practice of law enables her to act as a mediator, negotiator,
litigator and confidant.
Suzanne is also a fully qualified Collaborative Family Law
lawyer and continues to represent clients committed to the
Collaborative Family Law process. Suzanne has also completed
training as a Mediator.
Suzanne's approach is always to attempt to negotiate a
settlement but when this is not possible she is an effective
litigator.
Suzanne continues to be an active member of the Halton County
Law Association, the Canadian Bar Association and was a guest
lecturer at Queen's University Law School for five years. Suzanne
was a guest lecturer with the Canadian Mental Health Association,
was a Big Sister for several years and previously sat on the
Strategic Planning Committee for Big Sisters Youth Services Inc.
Suzanne expands her family law horizons by attending
conferences/courses held by the Canadian Bar Association and the
Law Society of Upper Canada. Suzanne is a member of the Hamilton
Halton Collaborative Law Practice Group and the International
Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
