Laura Hillyer
Burlington Criminal & Personal Injury Lawyer
Laura Hillyer divides her practice between Criminal Defence and
Personal Injury Litigation. She strives to help her clients
with the challenges they face whether they are injured or disabled
and are seeking fair compensation, or are charged with a criminal
offence. Laura believes that practising in these two areas of
law provides her with a wide breadth of experience and gives her a
balanced approach in facing legal problems. Laura recognizes that
her clients are often confused, frustrated and anxious when facing
the prospect of dealing with the legal system. Consequently,
she makes it a priority to ensure that her clients understand the
legal issues that will decide their cases.
Laura is on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Trial
Lawyers' Association and is a State Delegate to the American
Association for Justice. She attends conferences several
times throughout the year, both in Canada and in the United States,
in order to keep abreast of changes in the civil justice system and
to network with other lawyers dedicated to providing the best
representation to their clients.
Laura is a member of the Ontario Criminal Lawyers' Association
and regularly attends continuing education courses to keep current
with changes in the field of criminal law. She takes a
particular interest in impaired driving cases and successfully
completed course requirements as an Intoxilyzer Breath Alcohol
Technician.
Laura graduated from Queen's University in 1996 with a
Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. She then obtained her
Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario in 1999 and
was called to the Bar in 2001. Laura is often invited to speak at
Continuing Legal Education events and has delivered papers to the
Hamilton Criminal Lawyers' Association, the Ontario Trial Lawyers'
Association and the American Association for Justice.
Laura is married and is proud mother to her two children
and her golden retriever. She is an avid canoe tripper and
enjoys many outdoor activities.
