Law Clerk
Martin & Hillyer, one of Ontario's pre-eminent law firms located in Burlington for 35 years, is currently
seeking a Law Clerk with experience in Civil Litigation and Personal Injury. Accident Benefits experience would
be an asset.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Draft pleadings, settlement/mediation briefs for lawyer review
- Prepare motion materials
- Review files re status and moving forward
- Occasional attendance at Court to set dates
- Occasional attendance at examinations for discovery
- Answer undertakings given at discovery
- Receive and deal with client/lawyer inquiries via telephone and email
- Deal with and respond to incoming mail/faxes on assigned files
- Deal with all aspects of Tort and AB-side of all files
- Typing and dictation; Authorizations, Bills of Costs, access client disbursement lists and client accounts
- Processing mail, faxes, photocopying, emailing and occasional reception coverage is required
- Other duties as assigned
The successful candidate must:
- Have Litigation law clerk experience
- Have Knowledge of Rules of Civil Procedure and statutes
- Be a self starter who is capable of working both independently and as part of a group
- Have the ability to deal with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Be motivated, highly organized, with the ability to both prioritize and multi-task
- Possess the ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Be able to work extended hours when necessary
Computer Requirements:
- Knowledge of PC Law
- Microsoft Word/Outlook/Excel
