    Law Clerk

    Martin & Hillyer, one of Ontario's pre-eminent law firms located in Burlington for 35 years, is currently seeking a Law Clerk with experience in Civil Litigation and Personal Injury. Accident Benefits experience would be an asset.

    Duties and Responsibilities include:

    • Draft pleadings, settlement/mediation briefs for lawyer review
    • Prepare motion materials
    • Review files re status and moving forward
    • Occasional attendance at Court to set dates
    • Occasional attendance at examinations for discovery
    • Answer undertakings given at discovery
    • Receive and deal with client/lawyer inquiries via telephone and email
    • Deal with and respond to incoming mail/faxes on assigned files
    • Deal with all aspects of Tort and AB-side of all files
    • Typing and dictation; Authorizations, Bills of Costs, access client disbursement lists and client accounts
    • Processing mail, faxes, photocopying, emailing and occasional reception coverage is required
    • Other duties as assigned

    The successful candidate must:

    • Have Litigation law clerk experience
    • Have Knowledge of Rules of Civil Procedure and statutes
    • Be a self starter who is capable of working both independently and as part of a group
    • Have the ability to deal with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
    • Be motivated, highly organized, with the ability to both prioritize and multi-task
    • Possess the ability to work in a fast paced environment
    • Be able to work extended hours when necessary

    Computer Requirements:

    • Knowledge of PC Law
    • Microsoft Word/Outlook/Excel
